I saw these pajama pants at savers a few weeks ago and I loved the fabric so much I had to get them, but I knew I didn't want to wear them. It was just the fabric. So I decided to try to make them into a pillow. I am still quite the amateur at sewing so it turned out a little lumpy, but I am still proud! I took a few pictures of the process so here's how it went:
First I unpicked one of the pant legs with a seam ripper, just enough to where I could tell it would be enough fabric for my pillow form. (which I got at savers for $2.99.) Then I cut the top of the pant leg off so I had a rectangle of fabric as you see in the above left picture. Then I folded the fabric over the pillow inside-out like you see in the above right photo, and again in the photo below. I wanted to make a flap so that I could easily get the pillow in and out since it's such a bright fabric and I might just use it for spring and summer.

Then I pinned the fabric around the pillow and slipped the pillow out. Then I sewed
around the circle shape I had created with pins. This was hard for me to
keep the straight lines, hence a kind of lumpy end result but it's
nothing I can't fix... eventually haha! Then after I sewed I turned it
back right-side out and slipped my pillow in! It was quick and easy, I
just need a little more practice on my circle sewing.

Wait a great idea!! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love your re-purposed idea. I think it's great! It's great to have a vision of something and be able to create it. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm also new to sewing so my lines aren't always so straight. I suppose I need to buy a sewing book or take a class to learn all the details of using my Brother machine, lol. :) Have a fab weekend. Going to add you to my GFC. :)

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this at The DIY Dreamer... From Dream To Reality!
Lovely fabric. I think a giant button sewn into the center of the pillow could look great.
