I have to admit, this is one of those projects that may have started out simply because I was bored, but I LOVE how they turned out! Of course, when I'm bored, I turn to my fabric scraps. I had quite a bit of red, white and blue and wanted to make something festive for my favorite month. Anyone could make this banner, it is so easy. However, it is a tiny bit time consuming. It's a perfect craft to do while
your husband is watching the NBA playoffs and you are tired of them but being a good wife watching a movie.
All you need is fabric scraps of the colors you want and some kind of string or twine. Oh, and scissors.I hate measuring. I know that sometimes while sewing it is mandatory, but for this project it really isn't (hooray!) All I did was cut out one strip about the size and width I wanted and then eyeball the others from there. Personally, I think it looks better when it doesn't seem "measured".
Because I was going with a clear color scheme I tied my strips in groups of three, but if you want it more random looking one at a time would be cute too.
You HAVE to tie your strips in this fashion (the knot is called a cow hitch) if you want them to have both ends hanging downward. Make a loop in the middle of your fabric strip and place it where you are starting on your twine (I worked from the middle outwards.)
Then pull both ends over your twine and through the loop you created.
Cut and repeat!
I like to incorporate bright red and maroon into my 4th of July decor so I did the same on my banners.
Turned out pretty cute right?
Good luck with yours!
