You've all made homemade Oreo's before right? If not you totally should, they are so easy and delicious. Here are a couple of adaptations that I did that would be perfect for a red, white and blue treat.
Here's the recipes:
Lemon Cookies:
1 box lemon cake mix
2 eggs
1/2 cup shortening
Mix all ingredients together. I added blue food coloring to go with the 4th of July theme, but they are really cute left yellow for just a summer party. Roll cookies into small balls. Bake at 350 degrees for 6-8 minutes. Let stand to cool.
Lemon Cream Cheese Frosting:
8 oz. cream cheese
2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cube butter
2 tsp. lemon juice
Mix all ingredients together and keep at room temperature to spread.
Red Velvet Cookies:
1 box red velvet cake mix
2 eggs
1/2 cup shortening
Mix all ingredients together. Roll cookies into small balls. Bake at 350 degrees for 6-8 minutes. Let stand to cool.
Cream Cheese Frosting:
8 oz. cream cheese
2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cube butter
2 tsp. vanilla
Mix all ingredients together and keep at room temperature to spread.
Hope you enjoy!
