Stay-At-Home Date Night

When I was growing up my parents went on a date at least once a week. In fact, they still do. Often when I talk to my dad he asks me if we are following suit. It is basically his one piece of marital advice, and I think it is a good bit at that.

Unfortunately, since Luke came around and we moved, date nights have been a bit harder for us. Primarily because we no longer have free babysitting. Also, I am a bit of a control freak, so it is hard for me to trust just anyone with my muffin.

The combination of these two means that we have been lazy about going out. Well, I decided that it was time that changed. Wednesday night has become our date night (we like doing them on a week day, since week ends are already exciting), and even if we can't find a babysitter or there isn't much room in the budget we still have to have a planned, no cell phones, no baby, fun night together.

We have been taking turns planning which is fun. If date nights are rough for you too, here is an idea of one I planned recently.

We started out with a BBQ in the back yard, which was not only delicious, but it is out of the house, which is a big perk for me :).

After dinner we went BOWLING...in the garage! I found the kids bowling set at Walmart for about $8.00, but this bowling set is even cheaper and looks like real bowling balls and pins which is fun.

I picked the garage because it was a flat, open space and we were less likely to wake the boy up out there. It was fun to be "outside" the house though. The tape line is so that we knew where we couldn't step over.

I printed off score sheets from the internet, and had everything already set up.

Husband's excellent bowling form....

My terrible bowling form... he is better than me at everything. It drives me nuts! But I also love it. Haha.

I wondered if it was going to be a huge pain chasing after balls and re-setting pins between every bowl, but it honestly wasn't bad at all. We got really fast at it, and we were laughing and having tons of fun.

Of course Bryce beat me by a measly two points which won him a massage.

Here's to having date nights after marriage and babies!

  1. I want that bowling set! Maybe when we have a garage. It probably wouldn't work so well on our gravel "driveway" haha!

  4. Love this idea! I was laughing at your cute photos. I think that this would also be a fun night for a family night with my kids. My kids are 12,10&8 and when I take away their electronics, they think that they need to be entertained...:) Love this idea. Thanks so much for posting! Have a happy week!!

  17. My hubs and I have been using the Wii for bowling, sword-fighting & mario kart ever since our little guy was born 15 months ago. I love the idea of trading who decides what to do.
