We are so excited today to have our very first guest poster! This lady is so talented, you will love what she created! Without further ado, Mrs. Kelsey Wells!
First off, I am honored and SO stoked to do the first guest post for Pretty Providence!! Love the blog, and especially love the ladies behind it.
In my field, (interior design) it is easy to spend A LOT of money. While one day perhaps we will be able to afford the beautiful furnishings of say, Ethan Allen, for now my husband and I make do with hand-me-downs, do-it-yourselfs, and clearance bargains. And guess what? I LOVE IT! I love making our house into a home. I love making spaces beautiful. And I promise, you do not need thousands of dollars to do it!
A few months ago is where this sofa story begins. My amazing husband came to me and said that for Christmas this year, we could buy some sofas. WHAT! Seriously, I was flipping out! After we got married a year and a half ago, we inherited some slip-covers from our very generous friends, and found some free sofas on KSL to go under them. While we were very grateful for them, and enjoyed them well, I could not help daydreaming of the day we could buy our first sofas! When he told me the news, the search began. The more we looked, the more I realized how much we would have to spend to get something I loved. I really wanted to find some awesome vintage pieces and have them re-covered, but that would have been a pretty penny as well. So, I turned to one of my best friends, KSL! Not sure what I was looking for, after three days of browsing almost hourly, I saw them! A sofa and loveseat set, almost NEW condition, going for $90!!! Together!
Crazy? Yes. Miracle? Absolutely! Rare? Yes. Impossible? Never!
I called immediately and sent my husband over to pick them up. Turns out, a family was moving and had purchased new sofas. They could have sold these for at least $600, but didn't need the money, and just wanted to make sure someone would enjoy them. $90 later we had these little babies-
(Sorry, these are the only "before" pictures I have!)
I liked them, but I knew with a little work I would LOVE them.
I decided to recover the back cushions with a fun chocolate alligator faux leather that I found at Home Fabrics for $12.00/yd! Then went to Joann's for my accent pillow fabric, which after their 50% off sale combined with a coupon I had, came out to be about $40.00 for all of it! Last but not least, I REALLY wanted to add some nail-head trim. After researching the options, I found an awesome DIY kit for just $20.00! (also at Joanns). The kit came with five yards I believe, so I bought two just to be safe.
Two days later, with sewing help from my world-class momma, and hammer help from my world-class man, viola!! We have a cozy, comfy, one-of-a kind sofa and matching love seat. That we love. :)
Nail head: $40.00
Total fabric: $70.00
Sofa+Loveseat: $90.00
Total: $200!!!
Not bad eh???
On a side note, everything, and I mean EVERYTHING in our home has been bargained in some way! Example: rug. I found one at Z Gallery to go with our new sofas that I loved, but it was $370. After further searching, I found the one in the pics at JCP on sale for $45! Sweet.
What are some sweet home decor deals you have found??
