Tie and Suspenders Wedding Onesie

So I mentioned in this post that my baby sister Paige was getting married. Well the wedding was last Thursday and it was totally beautiful. In the weeks and months leading up to the wedding I kept trying to find an outfit for my son with no luck. Her colors for the groomsmen were champagne/gold and there is nothing like that in 8 month old sizes.
One day when browsing pinterest I came across a tie and suspenders onesie in My Tangled Skein's Etsy shop which had already been sold. After looking at the picture awhile I decided it didn't look that hard and even I, a very amateur seamstress, could probably do it.

Supplies:
1 white onesie (Walmart $2.58)
Fabric scraps (on hand)
Gold Suspender Clips (found in my mom's sewing stash)
Thread (on hand)

At first I thought I was going to do a vest and tie because I didn't think I would be able to find suspender clips and I knew I had buttons. When I found the suspender clips, though, I couldn't resist them.

First draw yourself a pattern and cut out your fabric pieces. Then lay out on onesie to make sure they are in fact what you are envisioning.

Then  follow the instructions on your heat n'bond and iron your pieces onto the onesie.

Lastly, top stitch around the outsides of your tie and suspenders. This not only makes the onesie more durable but it also gives it a much more finished look.

Here's an up close view.

I couldn't resist posting a pic of Luke with his handsome daddy and the stunning bride and groom. (He matches pretty well don't you think?)

I got so many compliments on his outfit you wouldn't believe. People kept asking where we found it which is a real confidence booster because if you look really close it is definitely not perfect.  I'm thinking about making some different fun ones for church and/or baby shower gifts. What do you think? Would you like receiving one as a gift with some baby slacks?

    1. Thank you so much! You could totally do it, SO easy. The dress is an allure dress, you could probably go to allure online and then find a local retailer (I'm not sure where you are?) The dress originally was sleeveless but Paige really wanted sleeves so they added those. Hope this helps! Thanks for stopping by :)

  21. Ohmygosh!!! How so so sweet and adorable! Rarely do you find really fun things for baby boys! I like how this makes them look dressed up while certainly looking a lot more comfy for the little guys versus the little baby suits. Thank you for sharing on A Crafty Soiree. I'm featuring your project in the newest one...and I'd totally love to get a set for a gift. You should definitely make them for your friends and family! It might just become your signature gift!

  26. Are you sure you are using the Heat N Bond Ultrahold? You are not supposed to stitch over it. It's the Lite Hold in the purple package you can sew over. It specifically says on the package not to stitch it.
